Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto urged BRICS countries to turn their combined resources, markets and technology into greater global influence, saying the bloc could become "a powerful force".
Speaking at the BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Sunday, Prabowo said BRICS countries and the Global South could use their combined productive capacity, technology and markets to drive investment, industry and jobs.
"Put them together, and BRICS can make a real and vital difference for the world," he said.
He also called for BRICS to give developing countries a stronger collective voice.
"BRICS can bring together the voices of the Global South, amplify them as we shape the future," he added.
Prabowo also pointed to Indonesia's exposure to natural disasters alongside its vast reserves of strategic resources.
"We are an archipelagic nation, seated in the most active ring of fire. We live daily with rising sea levels, extreme weather, active volcanoes. [...] Yet our lands and our seas also hold much of what the future will be built upon: critical minerals, rare earth, renewable resources for clean technology and high technology, and the forests that breathe for the world," he concluded.
Indonesia joined BRICS as a full member in 2025, becoming part of an expanded bloc that also includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.
India is hosting the September 12-13 summit under its 2026 BRICS chairship, with New Delhi putting stronger Global South cooperation at the heart of its presidency.
