02:50India's BRICS Sherpa Sudhakar Dalela said the bloc wants to deepen cooperation with developing countries beyond its membership, speaking after the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Sunday.
"One common thread in the discussion, both yesterday and today, was as to how BRICS can come up with outcomes and deliverables which are relevant for Global South in general," Dalela told reporters.
Dalela said BRICS could work more closely with developing-country groupings in other regions, bringing their priorities onto the global stage.
"It was felt that perhaps it would be a good idea to reach out to other continents and invite the country chairs of the developing country groupings [...] and then only we can articulate them at the global stage effectively to meet the aspirations of the Global South," he continued, citing ASEAN, the African Union and CELAC, as well as Gulf countries.
Dalela also renewed calls for reform of global institutions, while setting out the bloc's three main pillars of cooperation.
"All of you know that there are three vertical, three pillars of collaboration under BRICS. One is political and security, the second is economic and financial, and third is culture and people to people engagement," he said.
"We did attempt under the overall theme of building for resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability. We developed a number of initiatives and outcomes which we felt that BRICS can benefit to collaborate going forward," the Sherpa added.
India hosted the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12-13 in New Delhi, bringing together leaders from BRICS member and partner countries, as well as outreach invitees.
The bloc began with Brazil, Russia, India and China and held its first leaders' summit in 2009. South Africa joined in 2011, before further expansion in 2024 and 2025.
