Ugandan Vice President Jessica Alupo shared a warm greeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday before the two sat down for bilateral talks on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.

The meeting comes as India and Uganda look to deepen long-standing ties, with cooperation spanning trade and investment, agriculture, healthcare, education, defence and capacity building.

Uganda has participated in BRICS as a partner country since January 2025 and has signalled its ambition to deepen its engagement with the bloc.

India is hosting the September 12-13 summit under its 2026 BRICS chairship, with New Delhi putting stronger Global South cooperation at the heart of its presidency.
