06:21Russian President Vladimir Putin said BRICS was attracting growing international interest, speaking at the bloc's Outreach meeting in New Delhi on Sunday.
"The broad participation in today’s meeting confirms that the international community’s interest in BRICS activities continues to grow," Putin stated.
"Many countries around the world are attracted to our core values and ideals, such as our commitment to pursuing an independent and self-determined course, as well as our aspiration to resolve issues through collective decision-making, based on international law and the key provisions of the UN Charter," he added.
Putin said BRICS promoted equal opportunities for economic and social development while preserving national cultures and traditions, and allowing countries to choose their own paths.
"BRICS is currently one of the powerful driving forces behind the strengthening of genuine multilateralism in international relations. It is actively contributing to shaping a new and more just multipolar world order," Putin said.
The Russian president also pointed to population growth and expanding domestic markets across BRICS countries, alongside advances in industry, technology, finance, science, education and infrastructure.
"Intra-BRICS trade has already reached 1.2 trillion dollars. The member countries account for almost a quarter of global exports, with BRICS itself contributing 49 per cent of global GDP growth. Yet the potential for BRICS further development is far from exhausted," he added.
The two-day summit kicked off on Saturday under India's BRICS chairship, bringing together leaders from the bloc's 11 member countries. Indonesia is attending as a full member after joining BRICS in 2025.
The 18th BRICS Summit runs from September 12 to 13 under the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability', with India's chairship promoting a people-centred approach based on the principle of 'Humanity First'.
