"There was a broad convergence on the need to strengthen multilateralism and to make our global governance institutions more representative, inclusive, effective and responsive to today's realities," Dalela said at a briefing.
"The leaders reiterated support for comprehensive reform of the United Nations, including its Security Council with greater representation of developing countries, and for reform of the international financial architecture to give developing countries and the Global South a stronger voice," he added.
India is hosting the two-day summit on September 12 and 13, bringing together leaders from a bloc that now accounts for nearly half the world's population and around 40 per cent of global GDP.
India's 2026 BRICS presidency is being held under the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability', with New Delhi pushing for closer cooperation across the Global South and a stronger voice for developing economies in global affairs.
It is the first BRICS summit hosted by India since the group expanded to 11 members, alongside 10 partner countries.
BRICS began with Brazil, Russia, India and China, holding its first leaders' summit in 2009. South Africa joined in 2010, before the bloc expanded further in 2024 and 2025.
