04:42An Indian artist has created striking portraits of four BRICS leaders using sand, crafting the tabletop tribute to welcome them ahead of the bloc's 18th summit in New Delhi.
Footage captured in Puri on Thursday shows artist Manas Kumar Sahoo creating detailed sand portraits of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The installation also features the bloc logo and a message reading 'BRICS leaders, welcome to India.'
“Today, for all the guests attending the 18th BRICS Summit, which is being held in India, we have presented an animation here in Puri to welcome all our guests. In it, we have created animations of the President of China, the President of Russia, the President of South Africa and our beloved Prime Minister Narendra Modi," he explained.
Sahoo said the entire work took around eight hours to create. The artist described the project as a source of pride, saying his work allowed him to welcome some of the world's major leaders to India.
“It is a matter of great pride because we feel very proud that, through our art, we are able to welcome such a major BRICS Summit, with so many major leaders coming here. The eyes of the whole world are on our country, India, and everyone is praising our voice and the leadership of our Prime Minister. So we feel very proud and are welcoming them through our sand art. It is a very proud moment," he added.
Sahoo is an internationally recognised Indian sand artist known for creating detailed sand sculptures and animations for major events and visiting dignitaries.
The 18th BRICS Summit will take place in New Delhi at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre from September 12 to 13 under the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability", with India's chairship promoting a people-centric approach rooted in the principle of 'Humanity First'.
