04:59Russian presidential aide and chair of the Russian Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev visited the Bellingshausen monument, the aircraft carrier Atlantico, an Orthodox church and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro during his working visit to Brazil on Friday.
Footage shows the official laying flowers at the monument, touring the vessel, lighting a candle in the church and meeting with the university's rector, Roberto de Andrade Medronho.
"We certainly support multipolarity, we stand for a multilateral world order, and we do not support the unilateral actions of a number of Western countries. <...> I also believe that many more people should know Russia's history and that it should be shared more widely," Medronho said during talks.
The rector also stressed that co-operation with Russian universities was a "matter of great pride and honour".
Meanwhile, Patrushev said he was pleased to visit one of South America's leading universities.
"We discussed opportunities for Brazilian specialists, including those involved in maritime activities, to study at Russian universities, as well as joint applied projects in oceanography and the study of coastal and polar ecosystems. <...> Such co-operation could also be carried out within BRICS, where ocean and polar science are already among the areas of joint work by our countries," the Russian presidential aide added.
Patrushev arrived in Brazil on Monday. During the visit, he met with the Brazilian president's special adviser on international affairs Celso Amorim, Defence Minister Jose Mucio Monteiro and co-chair of the Russian-Brazilian intergovernmental commission Maria Laura da Rocha. The sides discussed expanding naval co-operation and international security in the world's oceans.
