Russian Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Kurenkov said that BRICS nations must work together to deal with cross-border crises, speaking at a meeting of BRICS emergency services chiefs in New Delhi on Friday.
"Our joint work is taking place amid a constant rise in the risks of large-scale natural and man-made disasters . <...> We are witnessing how devastating earthquakes, typhoons, floods, wildfires and other threats are having a negative impact on people’s lives. This requires the rescue services of the BRICS countries to work in a co-ordinated and concerted manner, as well as to engage in close co-operation, including on the development and application of modern technologies," the politician noted.
Kurenkov added that many countries appreciate the culture of open partnership within the organisation, which he said was based on taking everyone's interests and views into account.
Representatives from Russia, Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the UAE attended the meeting. Following the session, a joint statement was drawn up by the heads of the BRICS countries’ emergency services.
