Russian Security Council Secretary Council Sergei Shoigu told journalists that Russia was actively working on developing a brand new system to counter next-gen drones, speaking on Tuesday following a meeting of senior representatives from the BRICS countries in New Delhi.
"A great deal of work is underway to develop new systems to counter next-generation unmanned aerial vehicles. The Head of State [Vladimir Putin], the Defence Ministry, the governors and the industry are all devoting a great deal of attention to this, so I hope that as new projects and new systems are rolled out, the situation will naturally improve," Shoigu said.
The politician also discussed Russia’s proposal for the BRICS countries to establish joint reserve funds, which would allow them to respond quickly to crises.
"This refers to fertilisers, liquefied natural gas and oil, among other things. Added to this are medicines and a whole host of other items, providing a unifying framework for the BRICS countries and enabling each to rely on these reserves." he told them.
India hosts the BRICS National Security Advisers Meeting on June 22-23. The event is expected to focus on strengthening co-ordination among BRICS countries, as well as international and regional security issues.
