A turbo-charged racing car developed through Russian-Indonesian co-operation was unveiled at St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Wednesday.
Footage shows staff from 'Formula BRICS' posing for photos next to the racing car.
"The racing car you see here is powered by a petrol engine. We are currently developing, in collaboration with Russian companies, a racing car that will be powered by an electric motor and, possibly, a hydrogen engine. That is the project we are working on. The Indonesian side supports this, and there may be a series of races next year: in January or February – we are currently in active negotiations – and we will present the Russian car in the Republic of Indonesia," said the organisation’s chairman, Kyuri Usmanov.
Alexander Ananyev, the Formula BRICS sporting director and an engineer, also announced the development of another model, with components manufactured solely in the alliance's member countries.
"This is the main idea: that the engine, transmission, aerodynamics, monocoque and electronics would be developed by different design bureaus and then assembled into a single vehicle, so that the car would be a creation, a joint effort by the BRICS countries and their respective design teams," the man explained.
According to the organisation’s advisor, Riskafiani, co-operation in this area demonstrates progress in the field of technology, as well as the advancement of globalisation.
"This is truly a magnificent creation, and we will also launch and present to the world, particularly the BRICS nations, the electric 'Formula 1' - 'Formula E'," the woman concluded. "The Indonesian Government fully supports this project, as it is an excellent initiative for relations between Indonesia and Russia, as well as for the BRICS countries in the field of sport."
The 29th St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) takes place on June 3-6. More than 20,000 people are set to attend, with politicians from around 76 countries making the journey. In addition, a US official - Chairman of the US Commission on Fine Arts Rodney Mims Cook Jr - will attend for the first time since 2017.
Since its establishment in 1997, the forum has served as a platform for international dialogue on global economic issues. Vladimir Putin has taken part in the event regularly since 2005.
