Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with his Thai counterpart Sihasak Phuangketkeow on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in New Delhi on Thursday.

Lavrov noted that Moscow and Bangkok are making every effort to maintain dialogue, including on the international stage.

"Thailand is our oldest partner in Southeast Asia. By the way, next year we will celebrate the 130th anniversary of our relations. And I believe we can ask our gentlemen and ladies to prepare some events to commemorate this occasion," the Russian minister added.

The Russian Foreign Ministry’s press service reported that the parties discussed the co-operation in trade and investment, science and technology, and cultural and humanitarian spheres, as well as the strengthening of the legal framework underpinning bilateral relations.

In addition, the diplomats exchanged views on co-operation within the BRICS and other pressing issues on the international and regional agenda.
