'Future lies in international collaboration' - Russian cosmonaut Kononenko calls for joint space ventures02:50
Description

Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko said that co-operation between different countries would mean even greater success in the space industry, speaking in Moscow on Thursday.

"Each country has its own advantages in certain technologies, so if we combine our technologies and financial resources, we can go much further. I believe the future lies in international collaboration", he said.

Kononenko also stressed that many states are interested in working on the planned Russian orbital station - set for 2030.

"By the end of this decade, two modules are set to be launched. <...> I believe this station will indeed be international, as there is strong interest from BRICS and SCO countries," he added.

The Russian Space Forum is taking place as part of Space Week and marks the 65th anniversary of the first human spaceflight by Yuri Gagarin. The event aims to define the strategic agenda for the industry and strengthen international co-operation in the peaceful exploration of outer space.
