Description

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said Moscow and Brasilia should launch 'joint long-term projects' to strengthen trade and economic ties amid the 'changing international situation', at the Russian-Brazilian Business Forum on Thursday.

"My colleagues and I agree that in the context of the changing international situation, it is very important to diversify trade, primarily by increasing the share of high value-added products, as well as launching joint long-term projects. This will give our economic ties a sustainable dynamic," he said.

Mishustin also stressed that the countries had "many opportunities to achieve concrete practical results in a number of areas, including the chemical industry, energy, oil and gas, nuclear energy, pharmaceuticals, space exploration, and many other areas of mutual interest".

Meanwhile, Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Jose Rodrigues Alckmin Filho said that relations between Moscow and Brasilia were "characterised by significant economic complementarity and ongoing dialogue".

"Trade between the two countries began to grow again after an impressive surge in the 2000s. In 2025, our trade reached 11 billion dollars, reflecting Russia's importance as a strategic partner," he continued.

The vice president further noted that the counties played a "central role in ensuring global food security".

"In an international context marked by logistical challenges and uncertainty in global supply chains, co-operation between our countries contributes to the resilience of the international food system by ensuring predictability, stability, and uninterrupted supplies of food and essential raw materials," he added.

The forum takes place as part of the eighth meeting of the Russian-Brazilian High-Level Commission on Co-operation. The Russian business delegation is represented by the heads of 35 major companies and industry associations.

Key topics of discussion include expanding mutual trade, developing logistics routes and settlement mechanisms, measures to support and protect investments, sustainable agriculture, food supplies, and the introduction of innovations in industry, energy, and the pharmaceutical sector.
