Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said Russia and Brazil should "increase mutual settlements in national currencies" to "successfully achieve common goals", during the eighth meeting of the Russian-Brazilian High-Level Commission on Co-operation in Brasilia on Thursday.
"To successfully achieve common goals, it's necessary to increase mutual settlements in national currencies, develop direct banking co-operation, and, of course, more actively use independent payment and account system, create modern travel corridors, and establish new production and logistics chains. This is the key to successful joint progress," he said.
Mishustin also noted that the two countries, "the founders of BRICS, are consistent allies when it comes to forming a truly fair multipolar world".
"The co-operation between Russia and Brazil is steadily developing and, importantly, being filled with new mutually beneficial projects in various fields," he added.
Meanwhile, Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Jose Rodrigues Alckmin Filho stressed that 'reliable partnership' of Russia and Brazil did "not only depend on the conjuncture but on well-understood structural interests".
"Brazil and Russia are large-scale economies with a broad productive base, strategic natural resources, technological capacity, and relevant internal markets," he continued.
Mishustin arrived in Brasilia for a working visit on February 5. The politician took part in the eighth meeting of the Russian-Brazilian High-Level Commission on Co-operation, held for the first time in 11 years, after which the parties adopted a joint statement.
"They confirmed their mutual commitment to continue strengthening their strategic partnership, based on time-tested ties of friendship, mutual respect, and mutual understanding, and aimed at implementing and expanding co-operation projects in various areas that meet the national interests of both countries," the Russian government reported.
The parties noted the significant potential for expanding co-operation in the industrial sector and "identified opportunities for increasing investment in order to develop mineral fertilizer production capacities and logistics and distribution infrastructure".
