'We had some fantastic on-water fleet fights' - Second day of J/70 BRICS Sailing Championship 2025 celebrated in Bodrum03:28
Description

The second day of the BRICS Sailing Championship, featuring J/70 racing yachts, took place in the Turkish resort town of Bodrum on Friday.

Footage shows competitors riding the waves of the Aegean Sea, overtaking one another. Organisers can also be seen presenting awards to winners.

"Fleet is very, very aggressive, and there’s a tough fight between the top teams. Each race is averaging about 45-50 minutes, and we had some fantastic on-water fleet battles," championship participant Frekan Chutuvedi said.

Meanwhile, Chief Judge Jules noted the excellent weather conditions for the races.

"Generally, the more stable the wind is, the more compact the fleet is,” he continued. “And now, as we had a bit more shifty and gusty wind, the fleet extended a bit more, so it was easy work for us."

Participant Melis Baykan expressed her happiness to be part of the sailing championship.

"Today was better than we expected, and we're hoping to keep this performance until the final day. I think today was very good for us," she added.

According to the press service of the Tenzor Sailing Club and Turkiye Yacht Club, the event runs from December 18 to 21, with support from the J/70 International Association and sailing federations of Turkey, China, Russia, and India. Some 80 athletes from BRICS countries are taking part in the competition.
