Former British MP George Galloway said that relations between Russia and China represented the only path to solving the world’s long-standing problems, as he addressed the World Youth Festival (WYF) Assembly 2025 in Nizhny Novgorod on Friday.
"I see Russia, the relationship between Russia and China, the relationships in the BRICS and in the SCO as the great cause of humanity. And the only way that humanity can escape from the problems which have afflicted us now for decades," Galloway explained.
Vyacheslav Fetisov, two-time Olympic champion and member of the Russian State Duma, echoed the sentiment, stressing Russia’s role as a dependable global partner.
"I took part in one of the events at Morocco's university. [Asked:] What are your main problems here on the African continent? What do the students answer? Water, food and energy. This is what the guys should carry in their hearts. This [Russia] is the country that will become a reliable, faithful partner, who will help solve all these three problems," Fetisov said.
Myanmar’s Deputy Minister of Sports, Zin Min Htet, also spoke at the gathering, highlighting strong ties between Moscow and Naypyidaw.
"Relations between the two countries, between Russia and Myanmar, are at a very good level, not only in sports, but also in the military and educational spheres. That is the nature of our relations. Our students study in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and various other Russian cities, so our bilateral co-operation will continue to grow," he said.
The WYF Assembly 2025 is running in Nizhny Novgorod from September 17–21 , bringing together around 2,000 young people from Russia and abroad. The festival features seven thematic areas, expert sessions, as well as cultural and creative events.
