Description

Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev has accused Western countries of politicising international efforts to combat terrorism and drug trafficking, asserting such actions 'play into the hands of extremists and organised crime'.

He delivered the remarks at the Global Forum on Cooperation in Public Security in Lianyungang on Wednesday.

"Western powers go to great lengths to undermine international efforts against terrorism and extremism, seek to weaken and revise the existing drug control framework, and diminish the prospects for effective criminal co-operation with partners they deem undesirable or inconvenient. In this context, they politicise co-operation in the UN, Interpol and other international organisations, thereby playing into the hands of terrorists and extremists, organised crime and the drug-liberal lobby," Kolokoltsev stated.

The minister further emphasised that, despite sanctions pressure, Russia remains committed to working alongside 'responsible actors in the international arena' to address new security challenges.

He also highlighted priorities such as combating illegal migration, ensuring international information security, and countering the use of IT technologies for criminal purposes.

Kolokoltsev arrived in Lianyungang on Tuesday. During his visit, he is scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings and visit an exhibition showcasing modern law enforcement technologies.
