Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan called for de-escalation and renewed diplomacy in the Middle East, warning that continued confrontation risked widening the conflict.
Speaking at the BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Sunday, Prince Faisal said current regional developments "inevitably placed themselves high on the international agenda", stressing that "continued confrontation cannot lead to a lasting settlement".
"Priority must instead be given to de-escalation and to creating space for political and diplomatic efforts, with the aim of reaching an approach that safeguards the security and interests of the countries of the region," he said.
Prince Faisal said Gulf stability depended on respect for sovereignty, non-interference and the peaceful settlement of disputes.
"The Kingdom affirms that its national security, territorial integrity and capabilities are not open to compromise, and that the Gulf Cooperation Council states will not accept the targeting of their territories, facilities or vital interests, regardless of the pretext or justification," he said.
The minister also called for freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and other key waterways, warning that disruption would affect energy security, global trade, supply chains and economic growth.
"The stability of the Arab Gulf is therefore not merely a regional matter, but an international interest directly tied to the health of the global economy and its ability to withstand crises," he concluded.
His remarks came as BRICS leaders used the New Delhi summit to call for restraint and a political solution to the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
