Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday that he met Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, with talks covering issues and concerns between the two sides.
Speaking in New Delhi alongside Iran's delegation, Pezeshkian said: "We had a good conversation and discussed the existing issues and concerns. Consequently, it was decided that we should put the past aside, look toward the future, and determine how we can build that future together".
Pezeshkian also expressed hope that BRICS policies would help counter "against the bullying that America is trying to impose in the region."
"We pray that God helps America not to achieve its colonial and exploitative goals, which it is pursuing in the region and in the world, doing so in Cuba and in various countries through its power," Pezeshkian added.
The talks also covered regional and international issues, including de-escalation, regional stability, peace and development.
India is hosting the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.
India's 2026 chairmanship is being held under the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability', with a people-centred 'Humanity First' approach and a focus on strengthening cooperation among Global South countries.
It is the first time India has chaired the expanded BRICS, which now has 11 members alongside 10 partner countries.
The bloc's 11 members account for around 40 per cent of global GDP and nearly half of the world's population. The BRIC countries began formal cooperation in 2006 and held their first summit in 2009, with South Africa joining in 2010. The group expanded significantly in 2024 and 2025.
