Addressing the summit, Xi described BRICS as the world’s most influential platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries.
He reflected on 20 years of BRICS cooperation and called for stronger innovation-driven development, deeper economic cooperation and reforms to global governance.
He also urged members to uphold multilateralism, oppose violations of other countries' sovereignty and play a constructive role in resolving international conflicts.
On the Middle East, Xi called for de-escalation, an end to hostilities and efforts towards a permanent, comprehensive ceasefire.
BRICS members unanimously adopted the New Delhi Declaration 2026, backing a more representative international order, reforms to global institutions and stronger cooperation on sustainable development and inclusive growth.
China is due to take over the rotating BRICS chairmanship and host the group's next summit in 2027.
