'An opportunity that we shouldn't miss!' - FinMin Neube on Zimbabwe's push to join BRICS01:21
Description

Minister of Finance Mthuli Neube discusses Zimbabwe's push for BRICS membership on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit in Dubai on Tuesday, saying it is an 'opportunity that we shouldn't miss'.

"Well, the BRICs organisation is yet another platform open to US emerging economies to be a part of. It gives us access to different markets. It gives us access to capital, for example, being part of the BRICs bank, which would give us access to capital beyond the traditional Bretton Woods institutions of the World Bank, IMF and African Development Bank," Neube said.

"So really, that's the advantage, access to capital, access to markets, that we feel is an opportunity that we shouldn't miss. And we've expressed our desire to join the BRICs group of countries," he added.

The landmark World Governments Summit 2026 in Dubai takes place on February 3-5, bringing together over 6,000 people, including more than 35 heads of state and government, over 150 government delegations and more than 20 heads of international and regional organisations.

Hot topics include global governance and leadership, societal wellbeing, economic prosperity and investments, urban futures and demographics, and future realities and evolving frontiers.
